How to Stop Your Phone from Overheating
Phone getting hot? Find the cause, cool it safely, and stop it happening again with these practical steps.
A warm phone is normal, a hot one is not
Phones warm up during gaming, video calls and charging, especially in sunlight. If your phone is too hot to hold, shuts down, or drains fast, something needs attention.
1. Cool it down safely
Move it out of sunlight, remove the case, and stop heavy apps. Do not put it in the fridge or freezer, as sudden cold can cause condensation inside.
2. Close heavy apps and stop background work
Close games, video editing and navigation apps you are not using. Turn off background refresh for apps that constantly update.
3. Check charging
Use a good-quality charger and cable. Avoid using the phone heavily while it charges, and do not charge it under a pillow or in a hot car.
4. Update software and check battery health
Install system updates, which often fix overheating bugs. In battery settings, check battery health. A worn battery can run hot and may need replacing.
5. Reduce screen and network load
Lower brightness, turn off 5G if you do not need it, and avoid downloading large files on a weak signal, which makes the phone work harder. If overheating continues, contact the maker, as it may be a hardware fault.
